Though it's only if one of two things occurs, the boy gets embarrassed or sneezing from his sister occurs. He was given no knowledge of what exactly triggers his transformations, but he has deducted these are the causes from various incidents.
o Fixer: Can tinker and fix almost anything he can get his human hands on. When he's a deer, he obviously can't help you fix a clock.
o Animal Instincts: From living in the woods for a long time and being a deer for a equal amount of time, Aurel has picked up a few traits found in his beastly form.

[Story]:
Aurel ended up being an orphan for an hour after his parents died but he was adopted by his best friends family. Isabelle and Aurel grew up together in their happy family until their mother died. Their father remarried a very cynical women that had their father wrapped around her twisted ways. After their father died, the kids eventually had to run away from the abuse they were receiving.
Of course, the kids had to run into the forest to get away from their wicked step mother. Like all children on the run, they get tired and hungry and sometimes even thirsty. Aurel though, was so thirsty, he disregarded his sister's warnings of the dark forest that they had run into and became an elk (deer... thing) upon drinking the enchanted water. After aimless wandering through the woods they were adopted by some old veteran.
The two siblings lived and grew older there in those woods. Aurel though, was a childish animal without a care in the world. He'd go out and play in the woods when his sister was away. Playing with the hunters every chance he got to see them. Of course a few times he was caught with an arrow in his flank, but even his sister's scolding didn't deter him.
One day though the kingdom was going to war, calling all able soldiers to fight for the kingdom. Isabelle went for the household, but Aurel's curiosity got the better of him, and he followed her as far as the forest would allow him. Eventually he caught up to her helping the witch of the woods who then allowed Aurel to leave the forest, but in return for delivering some golden box. Aurel just went along with his sister. Being lost in the woods for months had made Aurel realize that's not all the witch gave them.
Being able to turn semi-human again helped him get away from a few scrapes, like when the two bumped into the king of thieves. For some reason the man ended up accompanying them to the kingdom. Of course, the whole time Aurel wasn't paying much attention to them or any of the political nonsense at the castle. When it came time to hand over the box though, the kingdom was succumbed to a magic spell, turning the place back to nature. Aurel and company hightailed it out of there only to get lost in the woods once more.
